The Galleria Massimodeluca is pleased to announce the third edition of Darsena Residency. The project, curated by Daniele Capra, involves the artists from the Italian-Belgian group VOID (Arnaud Eeckhout and Mauro Vitturini), and the Portuguese artist Marco Godinho; they will be the guests in the gallery for the whole of July 2017. At the end of September there will be opened an exhibition showing the final results of the activities and researches undertaken. The show will have a bilingual catalogue containing documentation about the residency and the works.

The residency came into being when the gallery decided to make its own rooms into a lively workshop open to challenges, and to make available to the guest artists its own network of relationships in Italy, as well as the collectors, curators, journalists, and friends who follow its activity. In particular, the Darsena Residency scheme is characterised, as the curator explains, “by a great environmental interaction with the context of the Venetian lagoon and hinterland which are still aspects little explored by contemporary art. The artists invited will undertake an extremely varied research ranging from sculpture to sound art, multi-media installations, and the most poetic forms of conceptualism, all of which can be greatly stimulated by the landscape, by the visual, historical, cultural, and anthropological elements of the territory.

Darsena Residency – with the support of Angeloni dal 1927, Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Jesolo, Studio Alberto Nale Dottore Commercialista and Vulcano Unità di Produzione Contemporanea, communication partner – expects the artists to develop their own researches while living in the gallery and thus benefitting from the network of relationships with other artists and curators, with the city itself, and with the sphere of craftsmanship and industry. There will also be occasions for exchanging ideas with collectors and young entrepreneurs, among whom Giuseppe Casarotto (president of Club AGMeC) and Mirko Rizzi (the founder of Marsèlleria). As part of this policy of sharing, the Galleria Massimodeluca will sustain the production of works by the artists during their residency and will exhibit them in the concluding exhibition.

The gallery’s director, Marina Bastianello, says that “the gallery is more than happy to undertake such a collective and ambitious project as that of Darsena Residency, one that gives young artists the possibility of developing their art by bringing together different sensitivities and skills as well as introducing them to many of the leading figures of the art system. I am extremely grateful to the artists, the curator, and the collectors who have wanted to be a part of all this.”

Marco Godinho (Salvaterra de Magos 1978; he lives in Paris and Luxembourg) has experienced at first hand the problems of immigration and of cultural displacement. His art is concerned with the poetic use of language and words, the search for wonder and emotion, and with a conceptual use of mapping. In 2015 he held solo shows at MNAC – Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea do Chiado, Lisbon; in 2013, Museo Universitario Universidad de Antioquia, Medellin, and Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain; in 2011, Mois de la Photo, Montreal; in 2007, Chaudronnerie – FRAC Champagne-Ardenne, Reims. He has taken part in such group shows as Eppur si muove, MUDAM – Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, Luxembourg (2015-2016); Everydayness – Alternativa, Wyspa Institute of Art, Gdansk; Bienal video y artes mediales – Autonomia, Museo National de Bellas Artes, Santiago de Chile; Les lignes du geste, Centre Pompidou-Metz and Frac Lorraine; and in 2010, Marcher-Créer, Les rencontres d’Arles.

VOID is a group, founded in 2013 in Brussels by Arnaud Eeckhout and Mauro Vitturini, that centres its concerns on visual and sound art. Often their art leads to time-based, site-specific, three-dimensional installations in a dialogue with the environmental context.

Among their solo shows, mention should be made of Monographie Arts 10 6, La Médiatine, Brussels; Lorem Ipsum, Maison des Arts de Schaerbeek, Brussels, and Sound never dies, MAAC, Brussels, all in 2016; in 2015, Silences, Arsonic, Mons; OFF Course Art Fair, Tour et Taxis, Brussels and Mulhouse 015 Biennale, Mulhouse. In Italy in 2016 they took part in the group shows Il linguaggio come scoperta, MLAC, Rome; in 2015, Chaotic passion, Museo d’arte contemporanea Villa Croce, Genoa; in 2014, FAP, Fondazione Aurelio Petroni, Salerno, Annizero, FAL, Bari, Un rumore bianco, ASSAB%u2008ONE, Milan; and in 2013, Essere io non ha misura, Macro Testaccio, Rome.

Daniele Capra (Conegliano, 1976) is an independent curator and journalist. He has curated more than eighty shows in Italy, France, the Czech republic, Austria, Croatia, Albania, Germany, and Israel, and has collaborated with such institutions as the Reggia di Caserta; CAMeC, la Spezia; Galleria Comunale d’Arte Contemporanea, Monfalcone; Museo Bernareggi, Bergamo; Galleria d’Arte Moderna, Genoa; MMSU Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Rijeka; Coneculta, Chiapas; Casa Cavazzini Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Udine; the Tirana National Gallery; Fondazione Dena, Paris; Galleria Civic, Trento; the Janco Dada Museum, Ein Hod – Haifa; and Dolomiti Contemporanee. He has curated the Premio Trieste Contemporanea award, and is a member of the technical committee of Rave Residency. He writes for Il Manifesto and Artribune.
